1. Common (all products)

1.1 Intended use

BiochemProbe products are supplied as research reagents for laboratory use by trained personnel. They are not medicines, diagnostics, food additives, or household chemicals.

1.2 Receiving and inspection

  • Inspect packaging on arrival. Note damage, leakage, or unusual odor before opening.
  • Verify catalog number, product name, and quantity against the packing list / invoice.
  • Place materials into the recommended storage condition as soon as practical after receipt.
  • Retain outer packaging and cold-chain indicators (if any) until you confirm contents are intact.

1.3 Laboratory precautions

  • Handle in accordance with your institutional chemical hygiene plan and local regulations.
  • Wear appropriate PPE (lab coat, gloves, eye protection). Use additional protection when weighing fine powders or preparing concentrated stocks.
  • Work in a fume hood when using volatile organic solvents or when aerosol formation is possible.
  • Consult the product Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for hazard classification, first aid, fire, spill, and PPE details before first use.

1.4 Opening containers

  • Allow refrigerated or frozen vials to equilibrate toward room temperature before opening, when practical, to reduce moisture condensation.
  • Open vials briefly; reseal promptly. Avoid prolonged exposure to air and humidity.
  • Do not return unused material from secondary containers back into the original vial.

1.5 General storage principles

  • Follow the storage statement on the product page / label when provided.
  • Keep containers tightly closed, protected from light when indicated, and away from incompatible materials.
  • Store solutions separately from neat solids when possible; label concentration, solvent, date, and catalog number.
  • This handbook gives class-level guidance only. Lot-specific CoA data do not replace SDS or institutional SOPs.

1.6 Spill, waste, and disposal

  • For spills and exposures, follow the SDS and your laboratory emergency procedures.
  • Dispose of unused product, solutions, and contaminated consumables as chemical waste under local rules.
  • Do not discard research chemicals into domestic trash or drains unless your EHS policy explicitly allows it.

2. Small molecules

Apply this chapter to catalog items classified as small molecules (including free bases, salts, and hydrates sold as discrete chemical compounds).

2.1 Solids

  • Weigh promptly after opening. Minimize time the vial remains open.
  • Use clean, dry spatulas and weigh boats. Avoid cross-contamination between compounds.
  • Hygroscopic or light-sensitive materials may require desiccated and/or amber storage; check the product page.
  • If the solid cakes or appears wet, contact technical support before use rather than forcing redispersion without guidance.

2.2 Preparing stock solutions

  • Select solvent based on the product datasheet solubility information when available. Do not assume DMSO solubility for every compound.
  • Calculate concentration from the labeled purity / salt form and the molecular weight of the catalog form you purchased (salt vs free base).
  • Dissolve with gentle mixing. Mild warming or sonication may help for some solids; avoid overheating unstable compounds.
  • Filter only when your protocol requires it and material loss / adsorption is acceptable.
  • Record solvent lot, concentration, preparation date, and storage location on the aliquot label.

2.3 Aliquoting and freeze–thaw

  • Prepare single-use or small-volume aliquots to reduce repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
  • Typical practice for many DMSO stocks is frozen storage (e.g. −20 °C or −80 °C) after dissolution—follow product guidance when stated.
  • Thaw aliquots completely, mix gently, and return unused portion to storage only if your SOP allows reuse.
  • Watch for precipitation after thawing or dilution into aqueous buffers; re-check concentration and appearance before dosing cells or animals.

2.4 Dilution into aqueous media

  • Organic stock solutions often precipitate when diluted into water or culture medium. Titrate vehicle concentration to your assay tolerance.
  • Prepare fresh working dilutions when compound stability in aqueous media is unknown or short.
  • Include vehicle controls matched to the highest solvent percentage used in the experiment.

In vivo formulations, PK dosing vehicles, and compound-specific stability studies must be designed by the investigator. BiochemProbe does not provide clinical dosing advice.

3. Peptides

Apply this chapter to catalog items classified as peptides (linear, cyclic, and modified peptides supplied as research reagents). For non-natural residues, bridges, or conjugates, also read the product datasheet notes.

3.1 Receipt and storage of lyophilized peptides

  • Keep lyophilized peptides cold and dry as indicated on the product page / label.
  • Before opening, allow the vial to warm toward room temperature in a desiccated environment when possible, to limit moisture uptake.
  • Long-term storage is usually as the dry solid. Avoid storing peptides primarily as dilute aqueous stocks unless stability is known.

3.2 Opening and handling dry peptide

  • Peptide powders can be electrostatic and hygroscopic—open briefly and reseal tightly.
  • Weigh under low-humidity conditions when accurate mass is critical; alternatively dissolve the entire vial when the net content is certified and protocols allow.
  • Do not leave opened vials at room temperature longer than necessary.

3.3 Reconstitution (general)

  • Recommended first solvents often include sterile water, dilute acetic acid, dilute ammonium hydroxide, or DMSO/DMF—choose based on sequence properties and datasheet guidance, not a single universal solvent.
  • Hydrophobic or aggregation-prone peptides may need organic co-solvent first, then dilution into aqueous buffer.
  • Mix gently; avoid vigorous foaming. Brief sonication may help some peptides; monitor for degradation or precipitation.
  • Adjust pH carefully. Extreme pH can improve solubility for some sequences but may affect stability or downstream assays.
  • Filter sterilize only if required and compatible with peptide recovery.

3.4 Aliquoting and freeze–thaw (peptides)

  • Prefer multiple small aliquots of concentrated stock. Minimize freeze–thaw cycles.
  • Frozen peptide solutions are commonly stored at −20 °C or −80 °C; protect from repeated warming.
  • Some peptides oxidize, deamidate, or aggregate in solution—prepare fresh working dilutions when activity is critical.
  • For cysteine-containing peptides, consider oxidation risk and whether reducing conditions or inert atmosphere are appropriate for your use case.

3.5 Modified, cyclic, and difficult sequences

  • N-/C-terminal modifications, lactam/disulfide bridges, stapling, and fatty-acid conjugates can change solubility and handling versus unmodified analogs.
  • When datasheet solubility or reconstitution notes are provided for that catalog number, those notes take precedence over this general chapter.

Sequence-specific protocols, cell-penetrating strategies, and in vivo peptide formulations are investigator-designed. Always cross-check purity, counter-ion, and net peptide content assumptions when converting mass to molar concentration.
